YSS Igatpuri Retreat Overview Facing Mountain Range Featured Image

Welcome to the Igatpuri Retreat of Yogoda Satsanga Society of India (YSS). Paramahansa Yogananda Sadhanalaya – Igatpuri holds a special place as the first retreat centre of YSS. The facility was inaugurated on March 7, 2002, coinciding with the 50th mahasamadhi anniversary of Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda.

Serene and Scenic Environment

Nestled amidst the scenic Western Ghats in Maharashtra, this 16-acre lush green facility offers a serene natural environment conducive to silent communion with God. The diverse gardens overlooking the hills, along with scattered benches, gazebos, and shady areas, add to the beauty of the place. A unique highlight is the Wishing Well, situated at the Sadhanalaya’s highest point, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the distant Kalsubai mountain ranges.

Retreat Facilities

The tranquil grounds feature a fully carpeted and well-ventilated meditation hall and an open meditation area inside the main building, and other dedicated sacred spaces — all contributing to the retreat’s spiritual ambience. Dedicated rooms in the main building and kutirs constitute the accommodation and dining facility for retreatants. There is an administrative block also that houses the reception and a library. Retreatants can participate in group meditations, do spiritual study and self-introspection, take walks in nature, and enjoy the natural setup of the serene retreat grounds.

Overview of Events

Throughout the year, the Sadhanalaya organises a wide range of programmes for the spiritual benefit of devotees. These include sadhana sangams and conducted retreats that provide a wonderful opportunity for an individual to be able to let go of all worries and material concerns and relax in body, mind, and soul. How to Reach

Situated approximately 125 kilometres from Mumbai and 50 kilometres from Nashik, the retreat is easily accessible from various parts of the country via air, rail, and road. Please read the details shared below to select a mode that is best suited for you.

By Air
Nashik International Airport (ISK):
The nearest airport is Nashik International Airport (ISK), located in the town of Ozar. From here, the drive to Sadhanalaya is around 60-70 kilometres and usually takes about 1.5-2 hours.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM):
If a direct flight to Nashik is not available from your city, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM), Mumbai, is a key alternative. It offers excellent flight connectivity from across India and the world. The retreat is approximately 120-130 kilometres from Mumbai Airport, which usually translates to a 3-4 hour drive, depending on traffic.

Taxis and private cabs are readily available upon your arrival at both airports for your onward journey to the Sadhanalaya.

By Rail
The nearest and most convenient railway station is Igatpuri Railway Station (IGP) which is situated on the busy Mumbai – Nashik – Bhusawal route of the Indian Railways network. The Retreat is located approximately 3-4 kilometres from the Igatpuri Railway Station. From there, you can conveniently hire an auto-rickshaw to the Sadhanalaya.

Should you find limited direct train availability to Igatpuri from your origin, you may consider travelling to Mumbai first. Major stations in Mumbai – Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT), Dadar (DR), Kalyan Junction (KYN), Nashik Road (NK) – offer unparalleled direct train connectivity from almost all major cities and regions across India. Numerous local and express trains operate very frequently to Igatpuri from these stations. Alternatively, a direct taxi can also be hired from these stations to the Sadhanalaya, which would take approximately 3-4 hours, depending on the traffic.

By Road:
Being conveniently situated on National Highway 160 (NH160) – a key route seamlessly connecting Mumbai and Nashik – and well served by its proximity to the Mumbai-Agra Highway (NH3/NH60), the retreat enjoys excellent road connectivity.

From Mumbai:

  • Take National Highway 3 (now part of NH160/NH60) towards Igatpuri.
  • After passing the ghat section, look out for Manas Resorts and Greenland Hotel, then take the immediate left turn.
  • Continue past the Mahindra Factory and take a left turn at the Ram Mandir to reach the Sadhanalaya.

The journey takes approximately 1.5-2 hours (50-60 kilometres) and about 4-5 hours (220-230 kilometres) from Nashik and Pune, respectively. Taxis and private cabs can be easily hired for a comfortable and direct journey to the Sadhanalaya.

Bus services are available from Mumbai to Igatpuri. One can board buses plying from Mumbai to Nashik or Shirdi and get off at Igatpuri highway (near Hotel Greenland). Intercity bus services also operate from Pune, Vadodara, and other neighbouring cities.
