A Heart-Opening Read
“The Spiritual Expression of Friendship” presents a clear, practical approach to developing healthy and happy relationships with all. Perfect for readers seeking inspiration, connection, or a thoughtful gift, this timeless guide offers uplifting reflections and expands our understanding of friendship to include the divine presence of the One Friend — God — who walks with us through every experience.
Paramahansa Yogananda extolled in his writings and exemplified in his life the ideal of friendship with all. One of his defining characteristics was his ability to interact with people from all walks of life, even those he had just met, as if they had been his lifelong friends. It was possible for him because he saw, he knew, each person as a soul, as a child of God. In this little volume, Yogananda tells us how to develop our own powers of divine love and friendship, so that we too can learn to see the Divine in all. In doing so, he says, we will experience God not just in loved ones, but in our very own self. Our ability to love all beings and all creation will awaken. “Love is the echo of Spirit reverberating through souls,” Yogananda writes. “Love is the ocean of eternal unity, where the meandering rivers of all little lives are to merge into the resplendent vastness of blissful, immortal Spirit.”

Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda (1893–1952) is widely regarded as one of the preeminent spiritual figures of our time. Born in Gorakhpur, India, he was sent by his guru to the United States in 1920 as India’s delegate to an International Congress of Religious Liberals. He instructed hundreds of thousands of men and women in the yoga science of meditation and balanced spiritual living.
The life and teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda are described in his widely acclaimed Autobiography of a Yogi, which has become a classic in its field since its publication in 1946. He founded Yogoda Satsanga Society of India (YSS) in 1917 and Self-Realization Fellowship (SRF) in 1920 to disseminate his teachings worldwide and to preserve their purity and integrity for generations to come. In 2017, Government of India paid a tribute by releasing a commemorative stamp in honour of the centennial of Yogoda Satsanga Society of India.
