Shraddha: The Foundation of Spiritual Life

by Swami Chaitanyananda Giri

In this talk, YSS sannyasi Swami Chaitanyananda Giri explores one of the most beautiful treasures of our spiritual tradition, shraddha or faith and devotion.

Drawing on Yoganandaji’s wisdom from God Talks With Arjuna: The Bhagavad Gita, he emphasizes how Arjuna’s shraddha — his devotion to Bhagavan Krishna — led him to receive divine knowledge, which transformed his inner world. He defines shraddha as the natural inclination of the heart quality to turn towards its Source, and faith is an integral part of surrendering to this pull.

Swami Chaitanyananda explains how shraddha is necessary for success on the spiritual path. It brings clarity and strength to follow the Guru and his teachings, and ultimately brings grace. It also leads to inner transformation that sustains us when challenges arise.

This discourse was live-streamed from YSS Ranchi Ashram as a closing talk of the December 2025 Sadhana Sangam.
