In this discourse, Swami Chidananda Giri, president and spiritual head of Yogoda Satsanga Society of India/Self-Realization Fellowship, encourages devotees to delve deeper into the meaning of shravana, the transformative art of listening to the teachings of the Guru.
Through cultivating the deep spiritual practice of absorbing divine wisdom, Swami Chidanandaji says, a devotee can overcome spiritual apathy or confusion amounting from dwelling in a noisy, overstimulated modern world. He shares that daily meditation, studying the Kriya Yoga Lessons with a personal devotional connection, and tuning into Gurudeva Paramahansa Yogananda’s inner guidance clear away this “soul fog.”
When “heard” with receptivity and attunement, Paramahansa Yogananda’s teachings become wisdom embers that remain active in the disciple’s consciousness, springing to life whenever guidance, strength, or clarity is needed in daily life. The Guru’s words inspire disciples to rise above mortal consciousness, actively cultivate the supreme desire for God, and make the sincere effort to draw divine grace. This spiritual discourse was given at the dedication of the newly renovated auditorium of Yogoda Satsanga Sakha Math in Ranchi, officially named “Shravanalaya” (a place of devotional listening) in February 2025.
