Three former students of our Charitable Coaching Centre at the YSS Noida Ashram, have got selected in highly prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology or IITs. Rohini Mishra has joined IIT Kharagpur; Yogesh Lodhi studies at IIT Patna, and Anshu Pal has preferred to join Delhi College of Engineering.
Started over a decade ago, the Coaching Centre offers free coaching to students from the economically weaker sections of society, residing in the vicinity of the YSS Noida Ashram. Students from classes IX to XII are taught at the ashram premises after their school hours. All teachers are dedicated YSS devotee-volunteers, many being former teachers or persons connected with education.
In addition to the normal subjects in their respective courses, the students are also taught spoken English. As these students study in Hindi medium, their skills in spoken English need improvement. An effort is made to enable them to converse in simple English on common subjects by the time they complete their standard XII.
Similarly, students are given career counselling, taking into consideration their academic results, inclinations, their financial background, etc. For example, a girl student, whose parents could not afford further education after completing standard XII, was advised to join a two-year course and earn a diploma as a Medical Laboratory Assistant. YSS gave her scholarship to cover part of the fees. She has since completed her studies and now works in a good hospital.
The teachers at the coaching centre made sincere efforts to help these three IIT students to do their best in every field and lead a disciplined life which helps in reaching higher goals. They also guided them in the selection of their careers.
Having developed a special relationship with Paramahansa Yoganandaji’s spiritual organization through their teachers, these three meritorious students approached YSS for financial help for their higher studies. In view of their academic performance, YSS is supporting them with scholarships covering a greater part of their college fees.
