True Love is divine, and divine love is joy. The more you meditate, seeking God with a burning desire, the more you will feel that love in your heart. Then you will know that love is joy, and joy is God.
— Paramahansa Yogananda
January 5 is the Avirbhav Divas (birth anniversary) of Paramahansa Yogananda, who was born in 1893 in Gorakhpur, India, to Bhagabati and Gyana Prabha Ghosh, and given the name Mukunda Lal Ghosh. Even before his birth, his illumined lineage of gurus predicted the pivotal role he would play in bringing India’s sacred science of yoga meditation to the West.
This sacred occasion of the Janmotsav of our beloved Gurudeva Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda was commemorated by Yogoda Satsanga Society of India with a special online programme conducted by a YSS sannyasi in English, on Sunday, January 5, from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. (IST). It included prayer, chanting, reading, and a period of meditation followed by a discourse.
Paramahansaji’s Janmotsav was also celebrated at all our Ashrams, Dhyana Kendras and Mandalis throughout the country with love, devotion, and heartfelt gratitude to the Premavatar.
