About the Event

“I am ever with those who practice Kriya,” he would say consolingly to chelas who could not remain near him. “I will guide you to the Cosmic Home through your ever enlarging spiritual perceptions.”

— Lahiri Mahasaya as quoted in Autobiography of a Yogi

Reverenced as a Yogavatar or “Incarnation of Yoga,” Lahiri Mahasaya first met with the deathless Guru, Mahavatar Babaji near Ranikhet in the Himalayas, and received his initiation into the sacred science of Kriya Yoga from him over 160 years ago. Paramahansa Yogananda first brought this celestial blessing to the attention of the world through his Autobiography of a Yogi, in which he said, “This auspicious event did not happen to Lahiri Mahasaya alone; it was a fortunate moment for all the human race. The lost, or long-vanished, highest art of yoga was being brought to light.”

On September 30, the Avirbhav Divas (birth anniversary) of Lahiri Mahasaya, we welcome you to attend a special online meditation led by a YSS sannyasi in honour of the great Yogavatar who brought the sacred Kriya Yoga teachings to the world.

This programme will start with an opening prayer followed by reading, chanting and a period of meditation, and conclude with the practice of Paramahansa Yogananda’s healing technique and a closing prayer.

Please note: This event will be available for viewing until Wednesday, October 1, 10 p.m. (IST).

In addition to this online meditation, you are invited to attend in-person commemorative events planned at YSS ashrams, kendras, and mandalis on this occasion. Please contact a YSS Centre near you for more details.
