Divine union is possible through self-effort, and is not dependent on theological beliefs or on the arbitrary will of a Cosmic Dictator.
— Lahiri Mahasaya, as quoted in Autobiography of a Yogi
Sri Sri Lahiri Mahasaya was a key figure in the historic renaissance of Yoga, the union of the soul with Spirit, in modern times. Revered as a Yogavatar, or “incarnation of Yoga,” he exemplified the highest achievements of this divine science.
On September 26, 1895, Lahiri Mahasaya entered mahasamadhi, a God-realized yogi’s conscious, final exit from the body in a state of oneness with Spirit. In honour of Lahiri Mahasaya on his Mahasamadhi Divas, a special online mediation was led by a YSS sannyasi on Thursday, September 26.
The programme included an opening prayer, reading, and a period of chanting and meditation. It concluded with Paramahansa Yogananda’s healing technique and a closing prayer.
In addition to this online programme, various in-person commemorative events were also planned at our ashrams, kendras, and mandalis on this occasion.
